JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position: Editor, Media for Reconstruction (MFR)

Afghan Education Production Organization)

Reporting to: AEPO Director:

Duty station: Kabul, Afghanistan

Editor Media for Reconstruction (MFR) reports directly to the Director AEPO  and is responsible for the editorial output of the “Radio for Reconstruction” Department which includes both Radio Educational Features (REF) and Radio Education for Afghan Children (REACH) Departments.

Main duties:

Management:

MFR:

Line manager of MFR team (writer/producers, reporters, freelance producers, actors (both adults and children), presenters) including responsibility for recruitment, induction and training for staff deployment, day- to- day supervision and discipline.
Identify writer/producers’ development needs and arranges appropriate training packages, including personally providing editorial and production training in both languages i.e Persian and Pashto for potential writer/producers and new recruits;
Responsible for smooth management of change as the Radio Educational Features and Radio Education for Afghan Children become one department’ ensuring that programming for children and for adults remains distinct;
Ensures the topicality, relevance, cultural aptness, and educational effectiveness of the MFR programmes and that they meet BBC editorial and production standards;
Supervise development of themes from :New Home, New Life” into coherent educational programmes for MFR’s range of audiences;
Chairs weekly preview/ planning meetings and agrees with individual weekly editors and ensures programmes meet audiences needs and are well-focused and easily comprehensible;
Oversees the plan for regular travel rota for the MFR team to gather programme material from different parts of Afghanistan;
Oversees record keeping soft copies of scripts and CDs recording of the programmes and that copies can be prepared for funding agencies should the need arise;

Communicate the new finding explored in MFR programmes tom and liaises with Drama and Publications Department; participate in key meetings taking place in AEPO and its different sections, as required;
Undertake other managerial or production responsibilities relating to AEPO as required by the Director AEPO.

Liaises on educational programmes with BBC Persian/Pushto Section in London, as well as with NGOs as required;
Develops and implements plan for internal and external evaluation of MFR, as required;
Promotes AEPO  externally to donors and the NGO community.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor or Master’s degree or equivalent in Education, Media or other related fields

Years of Experience: at least 5 years of experience in the field Editorial

Skills: Advisory, negotiation and strong oral and written communication skill.

Technical Competency: development of tools and formats

Communication and reporting skills Fluency in Pashto, Dari and English (Script Editing in Pashto/Dari)

Computer skills (including Adobe Cool Edit, Adobe Edition, MS Office and internet).

Ability to work closely, professionally, and constructively with all others regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, race, tribe, or cultural background
