Foot Crack

The skin underneath the feet is often dry and rough and sometimes this skin chops and faces the person with trouble.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people who are suffering from cracked feet and a physician about this disease.

 Haji Walijan, a resident of Lashkargah city, Helmand province says: “My feet are cracking and bleeding and it causes me trouble.”

Jaihoon, a resident of Herat province says: “My feet and heels crack in the autumn and the pain of them does not let me walk and I could not even go to school.”

Shabnam Omar says: “I am suffering from foot crack and blood is coming from them and they have irritation too.”

Doctor Muhammad Deen Imamzada, a dermatologist at ibn Sina hospital, Kabul city talks about this disease: “If the cracks develop, it means that the skin has been removed and the inner part of the foot is touching with the environment. The cracks might bleed and face the patient with other diseases like meningitis. Crack heels have irritation and might have pain that faces the patient with trouble during walking and physical works.”

What do people think about the causes of this disease?

Naseema, a resident of Herat province says: “Due to going on dusty way to school, causes me foot cracks.”

Ajmal, a resident of Maidan-Wardak province says: “When I was busy in building houses and also I was working in my land, the dust was causing my feet cracking.”

Asma, a resident of Paghman district, Kabul province says: “Some women in the villages are walking barefoot and their feet crack.”

Doctor Imamzada says: “Dry and cold season causes the dryness of skin, and it might cause the foot cracks. Walking barefoot or put on sandals in cold weather; working in water; some diseases like thyroid, high blood pressure, and diabetes are also the causes of foot cracks.”

How do people prevent this disease?

Naseema says: “I wash my feet 5 times daily. I wear socks and keep my feet from dust and I have not faced foot cracks yet.”

Najia Wardak says: “I apply vaseline to my feet at night and I wash them in the morning with lukewarm water and soap in the morning and this remedy prevents my feet from cracking.”

Doctor Muhammad Azeem Samim, a dermatologist at Ibn Sina hospital says: “Peasants and those who have to walk in the dust should put on socks and wear shoes and after working, they should wash their feet with lukewarm water and soap and then they should apply vaseline on them and wash them with lukewarm water and soap in the morning again.”
