Painting on the Felt
Written by: Yama Rahi
In the past few decades, many Afghans immigrated to the neighboring countries and there they learned different professions and when they came back to Afghanistan, they have took benefit of their abilities and started their activities inside the country.
AEPO’s writer/producer has talked Ghulam Nabi, a resident of Kabul city.
Ghulam Nabi says: “I have started painting 20 years ago and about 10 year before I started painting on the felt. When I was a refugee in one of our neighboring countries, I learned the basics of painting. As I was not able to do hard work, so I started to paint on the felt. I was painting on the felt according to the orders of my customers.
Painting on the felt takes less time than painting on a paper or a board. It has more benefit and it’s unique in its kind.
I get four thousand five hundred Afghanis net benefit from each painting on 50x70 cm felt and I could finish one painting in about 4 hours. I get 1-3 orders daily and I am happy with my work.”
