Spring with its all beauties is a season of allergy for many people. According to the website of the Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan, genetics is one of the most effective causes of allergic diseases. If one of the parents has any type of allergy, a child from three of their children might be expected to have this disease. If the mother and father both have a history of allergy, the probability of suffering seven children out of 10 from the same disease is more.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some patients about the symptoms of seasonal allergies.

A woman from Farza district, Kabul province says: “I am more sensitive to flowers fragrance, even I could not breathe easily.”

Ahmad Shah, a resident of Samangan Province says: “I am always bored in spring season; I sneeze continuously; tears flow from my eyes and I prefer to be alone.”

Abdul Khaliq, a resident of Chahar Asiab district, Kabul province says: “I always become sick with the seasonal changing. I suffer from pneumonia, flue and body ache.”

Doctor Nasrat Haidarian, a specialist of allergic diseases at one of the private hospitals, Kabul city says: “The primary symptoms of allergic reaction to the fragrance of flowers and grass are the common cold, throat itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Sometimes it could be caused cyanosis, and ultimately causing asthma, sweating, getting tired soon and even the patient might have trouble during speaking.”

What do people think about the causes of this disease?

Doctor Haidarian says “Some people have an allergic reaction to flowers fragrance, perfumes, and some edibles. When someone suffers from an allergy, his/her bronchitis become so narrow that the carbon dioxide could not be replaced by oxygen and it could cause asthma and the patient might not be able to breathe easily and the disease might become worse if the patient does not apply vaccine.”

How do people prevent seasonal allergies?
