Handicrafts
Gold in the Dust
Writer Producer: Hesamuddin Hamdard
In Afghanistan, handicrafts and participation in public-benefit projects are among the opportunities that enable people—especially rural women—to earn an income and strengthen their household economy. Ms. Najia from Samangan Province is an example of a woman who, through her skills in embroidery, patchwork, and sponge-crafting, has been able to create a source of income for herself and her family. On the other hand, Mir Abdul Sami, by taking part in the implementation of public-benefit projects in his area, is employed and supports his family’s daily expenses through this work.
