The Consequences of Exchange Marriage

 Written by: Muzamil Shah Watandost

In Afghanistan, as usual, the boy's family proposes a girl, but in some families, the girl’s family accepts the proposal only for exchange marriage. The exchange of two girls between two families is called exchange marriage. This type of marriage is considered haram in Islam, because in most cases, the girl's consent is not obtained.

Some people consider poverty and a huge dowry the causes of exchange marriages.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people and an Islamic scholar about the consequences of exchange marriage.
