How to Build a Greenhouse at home?

The climate in Afghanistan changes in each season and some plants, including various types of vegetables, need a suitable climate. In the winter, it's difficult to find all kinds of vegetables in cold areas, and if it's found, the price would be high. Some women found a solution to this problem.

Writer/producer AEPO has talked to some women, who have built greenhouses at their houses.

Nahida, a resident of Paghman, district of Kabul province says: I was interested in having an occupation. The department of greenhouses in the ministry of agriculture helped me to have a greenhouse.

How to build a greenhouse?

Nahida added: At the beginning, we should choose a place to have direct sun rays and have no trees and shadow. We need plastic, pillars, pipes and a rope to build a greenhouse. When we build a greenhouse, we should plow the land by a shovel and then prepare it for cultivation.

With the rope, we hang tomatoes and some other bushes to be kept from decaying in the water. 

We cultivate vegetables in all four seasons in the greenhouse and I don’t have to buy vegetable from the bazaar. I have bought a television and earned about 10 thousand Afghanis from the benefit of my greenhouse.

Nazifa, an official of the ministry of agriculture of Afghanistan says:

The length of a greenhouse should be about 10 meters and width should not exceed from 3 meters. The pillars should be dug in the earth about 90 cm. A green plastic is suitable for greenhouses because it absorbs more sun rays.
