Eid and Reconciliation

The essence of human life is related to man's relationship with others. They should share their joys and sorrows with relatives, friends, neighbors, and others, but sometimes this relationship might break and turn into enmity due to some issues. Some reconcile soon, but others do not, and this animosity grows.
AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about this issue.

Noorullah, a resident of Dehsabz district, Kabul province says, “Once I had a fight with my cousin and we broke up and did not talk. We fought for the second time and this time we attacked each other with a knife. My cousin wanted to shoot me, but the village elders stopped him. This is the eighth year we are not talking.”

Ilham, a resident of Kabul city says, “About three days ago, a fight broke out among several boys. When the relatives of one of the boys found out about the issue, he came and killed one of them with a knife. They have an old enmity due to land conflict."

Muhammad Yasin Fazli, professor of sharia at the Education University of Kabul city says, “Those who harbor resentment and hatred in their hearts, Allah will punish them severely. Our Prophet (PBUH) said: Beware of envy, for envy is a sin that consumes good, as fire consumes wood.”

Why do some people hold grudges for so long?

Khayal Noor, a resident of the Qarabgh district of Kabul province says, “One cause of holding a grudge for a long time is that people do not want to reconcile them.”
Sadaf, a resident of Shakardara district of Kabul province says, “People get upset for a long time because they think that if they talk to the other side, their arrogance will subside and they will look down on themselves.”

How do some people solve this issue?

Jahanzeb, a resident of Nangarhar province says, “I fought with with my friend last years and were not taking to each other. When Eid came, I went to the mosque and after prayers, I congratulated him on Eid and thus we put an end to our enmity.”

Professor Fazli says, “Allah almighty orders: you should not form groups and sects, and do not spread hypocrisy, and should be brothers among yourselves. Our Prophet (pbuh) said that whoever is angry with someone and reconciles with another, his sins fall like leaves falling from a tree.”
