JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position: Director, Afghan Education Production Organization (AEPO)

Reporting to: AEPO Board

Period of appointment: 2 years (renewable)

Duty station: Kabul, Afghanistan

The Director is responsible for all aspects of AEPO’s operations in Afghanistan, with support from a Senior Management Team, and he/she is required to:

1.       Lead processes to ensure that AEPO’s strategic direction remains relevant to the context in which the organization operates and is responsive to change.

2.       Oversee the production of AEPO outputs for broadcast and other media, management of financial and human resources, fund-raising, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, as well as liaison with partners (in-country and abroad) and national/local counterparts.

3.       Ensure effective and timely delegation of tasks identified in 2) above within the Senior Management Team as appropriate.

4.       In recognition of AEPO’s ongoing symbiotic relationship with the BBC, ensure that all outputs meet its editorial standards and practices.

5.       Support the work of the AEPO Business Development team in identifying and pursuing potential funding opportunities in order to sustain and, where appropriate, expand the range and extent of activities.

6.       Ensure that effective internal systems are in place to ensure contractual compliance, including management of AEPO personnel in an equitable manner.

7.       Represent AEPO in interactions with donors, potential partners, counterparts and inter/national media as required.

8.       Ensure that AEPO is effectively represented in sectoral coordination bodies and inter-agency forums in Afghanistan as appropriate.

9.       Building on the experience gained by AEPO thus far, identify and act upon new development opportunities that may arise and fall within the organization’s capabilities and mandate.

The successful candidate will have significant senior management and editorial experience within a sizeable non-governmental media organization in Afghanistan and possess excellent communication skills. He/she will have proven ability to effectively network and manage organizational change, and demonstrate an understanding of the role of educational programming in an operating environment that poses both opportunities and challenges.
