Green Grasshopper

 Written by: Nasratullah Samim

Gray and green grasshoppers were living in a desert with other grasshoppers. Once, there was heavy rain and water entered the grasshoppers’ houses.

Gray grasshopper suggested others migrate to another safe place. Some grasshoppers accepted but the green grasshopper rejected and said that their houses are near to the clover field where they always feed themselves easily but gray did not accept. He took some other grasshoppers and started their trip. The green grasshopper saw a mina sitting on a branch of a big tree.

He wanted the mina to come near him. The mina became happy to find an easy hunt. The mina landed and attacked the green grasshopper. The green hid beside a bush and prevented mina from hunting him and showed him gray and some other grasshoppers were crossing the hill and wanted the mina to hunt them.

Mina flew toward the hill. When the grasshoppers saw the mina, they were afraid.

The green grasshopper suggested hiding under a big stone.

The mina sat on that big stone and said that he would not leave the place without hunting.

The green grasshopper told the others to wait for his order and promise to save them from mina and then he went out, and the mina chased him. The gray had seen a hawk nest on the hillside and he went near to it. When the haw saw the mina, she attacked it but the mina flew away.

Gray and other grasshoppers started their migration again. When they went a few steps away, one of the grasshoppers saw a lizard near them and he cried. The gray assured him that the lizard could not catch them.

Meanwhile, the lizard attacked them but they jumped. The gray grasshopper sat on a big stone and wanted the lizard to attack him. When the lizard attacked, the gray jumped and the lizard fell into the river near the hillside and cried.

The gray saw that the green grasshopper was watching the scene and the gray realized that the green had planned to trap him and other grasshoppers but the green thwarted the green’s conspiracy.

Gray and other grasshoppers reached safely to their target and they saw that everything was prepared for them. the gray and other grasshoppers were happy in this place. The gray went back to take the green and other grasshoppers to this area too.

When the gray reached his previous house, it was raining. The gray wanted the green and the remaining grasshoppers to go with him to the new area but the green did not accept and prevented other grasshoppers as well.

The rain intensified. Gray and other grasshoppers climbed the hill but the green stayed at home. The rain caused a flood and swept away all grasshoppers’ houses including the green.

The green was crying and wanted help. The gray dived into the water to rescue green but the flood swept him too.

Other grasshoppers rescued both of them. The green hopper’s head was broken. He thanked gray and other grasshoppers for rescuing him and said if he had accepted green’s suggestion at the beginning, he would not face such problems.
