Dangers of Pressure Cooker

Pressure cookers are designed to make short work of slow cook dishes. Pressure cookers can reduce cooking times but if we do not observe precautions, we might face some problems.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about this issue.

Faisal, a resident of Paghman district, Kabul province says, “One day my older brother was cooking beef in a pressure cooker. A few minutes later, we heard the sound of an explosion. When we went to the kitchen, the pressure cooker was exploded; my brother's hand was burned and most of the windows glasses were broken and we faced about 6000 Afghanis loss.”

A woman from Maidan-Wardak province says, “One day my uncle’s wife was cooking food with pressure and she had put the pressure cooker on the oven. The pressure cooker exploded and my uncle’s wife burned with hot porridge and we took her to the hospital for treatment.”

What do some people think about the causes of pressure cookers explosion?

Ayesha, a resident of Kabul city says, “Sometimes the vent weight of pressure cooker might be blocked or some people use safety match stick instead of jigger and it causes the pressure cooker explosion.”

Faisal says, “The heat of the oven heat was more than needed and the pressure cooker was not capable of more pressure and as a result, the pressure cooker exploded.”

What do some people think about the safety tips during using a pressure cooker?

Lima, a resident of Kabul city says, “Whenever I cook with a pressure cooker, I reduce the heat of  stove; I properly tighten the lid of the pressure cooker and do not open the lid oimmediately after cooking to prevent further risks.”
