Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are swollen, inflamed veins around the anus or the lower part of it. This happens when there is extra pressure on these veins.

Hemorrhoids can be either inside anus (internal) or under the skin around anus (external).

Hemorrhoids are very common in both men and women. About half of all people will have hemorrhoids by the age of 50.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some patients and a physician about this disease.

A patient, who doesn’t want to mention his name, says, “I am suffering from hemorrhoids. It irritates and when I sit down, I feel dizzy.”

Samir, a resident of Kabul province says, “When I was suffering from hemorrhoids, I had pain in my anus and blood was coming during defecation.”

Nargis, a resident of Kabul city says, “My uncle was suffering from hemorrhoids. He had been suffering from constipation and dizziness too.”

Professor doctor Ghulam Farouq Nijrabi, a surgeon at one of the hospitals in Kabul city talks, “Hemorrhoids are the swollen and damaged blood vessels in the anus or lower part of the large intestine.

The main cause of hemorrhoids is said to be high pressure in the lower part of the intestine that connects to the anus.
Hemorrhoids have 4 grade. Grade 1: Visible hemorrhoids that do not prolapse. Grade 2: Hemorrhoids that prolapse during the Valsalva maneuver but spontaneously reduce.

Grade 3: Hemorrhoids that prolapse during the Valsalva maneuver and need manual reduction. Grade 4L: Non-reducible hemorrhoids. if not treated on time, it might cause some other health problems.”

What do some patients think about the causes of hemorrhoids?

Sayed Malook, a resident of Paktia province says, “At the beginning, I was suffering from constipation and I was sitting more than usual in the toilet and it caused me Hemorrhoids.”

Kashif, another resident of Paktia province says, “Sitting more on a damp ground and lifting heavy loads cause hemorrhoids.”

Doctor Nijrabi says, “Straining during bowel movements; شitting for long periods of time on the toilet and or on legs; having chronic diarrhea or constipationو being obese; being pregnant and lifting heavy loads”ږ

How do some people treat hemorrhoids?

Samim, a resident of Kabul city says, “I drank more water and took medicines but did not help me.”

Sayed Malook says, “I was eating a mixture of yogurt, garlic, and tomato and I think this is the only treatment of hemorrhoids.”

Another patient says, “I Illuminated my hemorrhoid with garlic.”

Doctor Nijrabi says, “Hemorrhoids can be treated in two ways. Of course, at the beginning of this disease, some home remedies can be useful, but in advanced cases, it should be done only through medical treatment or surgery, which is a simple type of surgery.”
