Keeping Promise

There you would not find a person who has not made a promise in his/her life; usually, businessmen make more promises in their daily work. Some of them keep their promises, but some others break them and this issue might create some problems. AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about this issue.

Hikmatullah, a resident of Paktia province says, “Once one of my friends wanted me to help him in choosing and buying clothes. I promised to go with him to the market but I could not keep my promise and he was waiting for me for a long time and this issue caused him to lose trust in me.”

Aeysha, a resident of Qarabagh district, Kabul province says, “I am a lady tailor. One day one of my customers promised that she would bring me some cloth for sewing dresses. I rejected extra orders but she broke her promise and did not bring the cloth and I faced economic problems and I decided not to trust anyone afterward.”

An Islamic scholar, Qudratullah Safi, says that the Holy Quran orders Muslims, “One who believes in Allah and the Day of Judgment must be faithful to his/her promises. The person who breaks the covenant, in addition to losing his worldly prestige and value, he/she would also face a great tribulation in the Hereafter. The harm of breaking covenant goes back to the person himself, and he/she suffers from distrust in this world and faces divine punishment in the Hereafter.”

What do some people think about the causes of breaking promises?

Hikmatullah says, “Those who have faced promise-breaking, they also want to break their promises to others or some people live in a community whose most inhabitants break promises, they would also learn the same habit.”

Hayatullah, a resident of Khost province says, “I think, several people, promise more than what they can do and, this issue causes others not to believe in their promises.”

How do some people find a solution to this issue?

Ayesha says, “I am a tailor, I do not promise to anyone, and if I promise, I would keep it otherwise the customers would not believe in me I would lose my customers.”
