Sport plays an important role in strengthening the body's immune system; preventing many diseases and strengthening the bones. However, due to various factors during exercise, especially heavy exercises, the body may get injury and this injury might face the athletes with some problems.

 AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some athletes and a physician about this issue.

Yahya, a resident of Kabul city says, “I exercised bodybuilding for a month. Once during exercise, I felt pain in my neck but I did not talk about it to my traner. later the pain increased and I was not able to go to sleep at night.”

Farouq Kalakani, a resident of Kabul city says, “I was exercising body fitness. One day when I left Dumbbells, I felt a bad pain in my chest. The doctor diagnosed injury in my chest and I could not do my exercises for several months.”

Waheed Barakzai, a trainer at one of the private sports clubs in Kabul city says, “Most parts of the body that are injured in heavy sports are the neck and back, and it can damage the legs and other parts of the body during body fitness exercises.”

Doctor Haris Arif, an orthopedist at Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Hospital, Kabul city says, “Most athletes suffer from knee injuries during exercise, but bodybuilders and weightlifters more injure their back, neck, and other parts of the body, even cause breakage and fracture of the bones.”

What do some athletes think about the causes of physical injuries during exercise?

Yahya says, “As I had been exercising the same weight for a long time and it was boring for me, I tried to left a heavy load in the absence of my trainer and I got an injury in my neck.”

Farouq Kalakani says, “I lifted dumbbells before warming up and without the permission of my trainer, and I got an injury in my chest.”

Barakzai says, “Athletes get injuries when they do not pay attention to the trainer’s guidance, and start weight lifting and exercising without warming-up for 10-15 minutes.”

Doctor Arif says, “The body needs warm-up and flexibility before starting any exercise, because flexibility softens muscles, increases bone strength, and increases the body's resistance.”
