Intestinal Infection

Bacterial gastroenteritis happens when bacteria cause an infection in your gut. This causes inflammation in your stomach and intestines and it might cause some other health problems too.

 AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some patients and doctors about the causes, symptoms, treatment, and prevention of this disease.

Nadia, a resident of Shawaki village, Bagrami district, Kabul province says, I am suffering from an intestinal infection. Heartburn, bloody diarrhea, fatigue and discomfort, weakness and stomach pain are accompanying it.”

A mother from Qarabagh district, Kabul province says, “I am suffering from the intestinal infection. I feel bad stomach pain and bloody diarrhea.”

Doctor Adil, an infectious diseases specialist says, “Diarrhea, abdominal pain and fatigue, nausea, fever and vomiting, sputum, night sweats, and bleeding diarrhea are the common symptoms of intestinal infection. If the patient does not pay attention to the treatment of this disease, it might cause bleeding in the stomach, perforation, and rupture of the intestine, closure of the intestines and some other serious problems.”

What do some patients think about the causes of this disease?

Adil, a resident of Laghman province says, “I don’t know the real cause of intestinal infection but when I eat raw vegetables and fruits, I more suffer from the intestinal infection.”

Zainab, a resident of Ghazni province says, “The water of our residential area is contaminated and due to drinking that water, more residents of our area are suffering from intestinal infection and stomach pain.”

Doctor Faridullah Omari, an infectious diseases specialist says, “The main causes of this disease are stress; using tobacco; weakness of body immune system; bacteria and fungus; taking arbitrary medicines; foods that are not considered hygienic; drinking contaminated water and eating unwashed vegetables and fruits.”

How do some people treat intestinal infection?

Parwin, a resident of Paghman district, Kabul province says, “We wash vegetables and fruits before eating; drink clear water; and eat more soft foods.”

Marzia, a resident of Badakhshan province says, “I have been suffering from an intestinal infection for a long time. When I eat raw vegetables, I suffer more and they take me to the hospital for treatment.”

Doctor Adil says, “The treatment of intestinal infection disease differs. The patients should drink more liquids and soft foods and the patients should be taken a doctor or a hospital for essential treatment
