K-Tablet

K- tablet, a dangerous psychotropic drug is one of the derivatives of amphetamine.

A single use of the K tablet is equivalent to the destruction of the nasal cells and permanent impairment in thinking and decision-making power.

Due to dangerous and sometimes irreversible side effects, this drug is included in illicit drugs, and its use is prohibited in all countries of the world but some Afghan juveniles are addicted to this drug.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some addicts about the use of this pill.

Sonam, a resident of Herat province says, “I am addicted to K-tablet. It affects my decision-making power and  I cannot decide and nor think properly; I am always very upset, and I have faced a lot of problems at home.  I am tired of work and life and I do not want to visit anyone.”

Nazifa, a resident of Tagab district, Kapisa province says, “It's my fifth year of addition to K-tablet. I always feel dizzy and I suffer from headaches and body pain. I go more to sleep and I always quarrel with my family members.”

Doctor Malik Khan Wasiq, a psychiatrist at Mental Health National and Specialty Hospital in Kabul city says, “Addiction to K-tablet causes physical and psychological problems. Physical problems are muscle aches, fever, and increasing of heartbeat, tooth decay, dry mouth, and when the heart rate rises, it can cause serious problems, even lead to death.

 Psychological problems include restlessness, confusion in behavior and speech; Feeling that someone is telling him/her to do something wrong, kill, beat or curse someone or jump from a high place.”

What do some youths think about the causes of using K pill?

An officer from Laghman province says, “If anyone takes the K-tablet once, as this pill has addictive substances in its combination, the person would addict to this pill.”

Leeda says, “I was working in a restaurant and I wanted to do more work and feel no tiredness, so I was taking K-tablet and thus I addicted to it. Now I am not well and I could do any work and I have faced psychological problems.”

How do some people prevent the use of K-tablet?

A mother from Qarabagh district, Kabul province says, “I am the mother of nine children and none of them is addicted to K-tablet and other drugs. I and my husband always take care of them and we know their friends better.”
