According to the information, provided by the ministry of agriculture of Afghanistan, some women use a new method for cultivation of vegetable which they called it Home Garden. About 19265 home gardens are made in 22 provinces this year (1396). Some other women, who are not aware of this method, complain from the old method and could not get sufficient profit.
The writer/producer AEPO has talked to some women, who have home gardens.
Nazia Yusufzai is a woman, who get more benefit from a small piece of land. she says: I have learnt how to cultivate variety of vegetables in old tires, useless plastic bottles and plastic buckets.
We cut the plastic can into two pieces and fill the second half of the can with soil and compost, then we cultivate pumpkin, corn, and ladyfingers together in one can.
We cultivate tomatoes with onion and garlic with carrots, because the smell of onion and garlic prevents plant’s insects.
Nazia solves her all economic problems by using the new cultivation method.
Anisa Alizadah is an instructor of one of the agricultural cooperatives She says: those, who have no land, but have a balcony(veranda) could use plastic bottles, ice cream glasses and plastic buckets for the cultivation of vegetable. They should irrigate them after every two days and make some hole in the container of vegetable to reach fresh air to the roots of the plants.
