Gonorrhea is a common disease that affects many people worldwide every year. If left untreated, it can cause serious health problems and sometimes permanent complications in the patient.  Men, women, and children can get this disease. In this program, AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people and a physician about the problems and treatment of gonorrhea in males.

Muhammad Yusuf, a resident of Hilmand province says, “I am suffering from gonorrhea. I feel pain during urination and discharges in drops and sometimes I cannot control my urine.”

Shir Muhammad, a resident of Nangarhar province says, “I was suffering from gonorrhea but I did not treat it on time. Now I am suffering from prostate and kidney problems too. I suffer more pain from burning during peeing.”

Doctor Izatullah Hameed, a urologist at Jamhoriat Hospital, Kabul city says, “

The main symptoms of gonorrhea are pain during urination, burning, and sometimes uncontrollable urination. If left untreated, it can cause serious problems, including stones and pus in kidneys and kidneys inflammation, lead to kidneys failure and some other severe problems.”

What do some patients think about the causes of this disease?

Ata Muhammad says, “I don’t know about the main cause of gonorrhea but I think that when I was not drinking water in hot weather, it caused me gonorrhea and kidney problems.”

Khwaja Aqluddin, a resident of Paktia province says, “I was always drinking contaminated water and faced with prostate and kidney problems and as did not treat them on time, I faced gonorrhea too.”

Doctor Hameed says, “This disease has various causes, including not drinking water in hot weather; taking proteins, not observing cleanliness when urinating and wearing clothes contaminated with germs, urinary tract obstruction, prostate disease, kidney stones and eating too much pepper and if the wife is suffering from gonorrhea, this disease might transfer to her husband too.”

How do some patients treat this disease?

Khwaja Aqluddin says, “I drank more water and other liquids; avoided spicy foods and now I am better.”

Muhammad Yusuf says, “when I was suffering from gonorrhea, I was drinking more clear water and I went to the doctor and took medicines and now I am completely recovered.”

Doctor Hameed says, “If a person infected with gonorrhea, he should drink more clear water and other liquids and avoid spicy foods. Instead, he should eat fruits rich in vitamin C, including lemons, sweet orange, and other fresh fruits. If the problem persists for more than a week, he should go to a health center or a doctor for essential treatment.

To prevent this disease, try to use toilet paper and clean pieces of cloth instead of clods and dirty things when going to the toilet. Drink more healthy and clear water in hot weather; eat more vitamin c rich fruits and avoid too much pepper and spicy foods.”
