Water is a vital substance for all creatures. Water makes up 70.1% of the human body.

In Afghanistan, most of the residents in rural areas and some of the residents of cities use water of open wells, streams, spring, and canals. Using these kinds of water causes various diseases because most of such water is contaminated.

The writer/producer of AEPO has talked to some people about this issue.

A woman, who had come for treatment to a hospital in Kabul city, said that contaminated water caused her hepatitis A and typhoid.

Abdul Rahman Jawad, a specialist of internal diseases at Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kabul city says:

Using contaminated water causes various disease such as cholera, amoeba, hepatitis A, typhoid, Diarrhea, dysentery, children malnutrition and so on.

How to get rid of this problem?

Physicians advise to use closed well or boiled water for drinking, washing vegetables, hands, and dishes. It’s better to use chlorine in all kind of water before use.  Filtration helps to purify water but it does not eliminate germs.
