Stomach Reflux and Diet

Your stomach has a nifty way of digesting proteins and it is called stomach acid. If you have high stomach acid you could be suffering from any of these symptoms: Burning sensation immediately after eating; worse lying down at night; ulcers; burping; a sensation of food being stuck in your throat; Vomiting and nausea.

AEPO’s writer/producer has to some patients suffering from stomach reflux and a physician about the diet of this disease.
Iqbal, a resident of Maidan-Wardak says, “I was suffering from my stomach reflux but I was eating potato chip and chatni in the bazaar and I was also eating fried foods at home. Later I faced a stomach ulcer and I lost my weight.”

A woman says, “When I eat spicy and fried food, I more suffer from stomach acid. I feel that someone burns fire in my stomach. I also feel pain between my shoulders and I suffer from hypertension too.”

An internist, Doctor Safiullah Oryakhel says, “If the patients who suffer from stomach acid do not take care of their foods, they might face stomach ulcers and even stomach cancer. The stomach reflux causes heartburn, nausea, vomiting, a sour or bitter-tasting acid backing up into your throat or mouth, Dysphagia - the sensation of food being stuck in your throat and the acid damage the stomach walls and causes stomach ulcer and the patient might face anemia.”

What do people think about the causes of stomach reflux? 

Shafiullah Azizi, a resident of Maidan-Wardak province says, “I think spicy and fried foods cause stomach reflux.”

Barakatullah, another resident of Maidan-Wardak province says, “Saur foods might increase the acid of the stomach.”

Doctor Oryakhel says about the causes of stomach acid reflux, “Certain foods and drinks such as coffee, alcohol, chocolate and fatty or spicy foods; carbonated drinks; being overweight; smoking; pregnancy; stress and anxiety and some pain killer medicines cause the stomach acid reflux.”

What kind of foods do patients eat or avoid?

Barakatullah Wardak says, “Onion and citrus cause me stomach acid reflux but soft foods give me relief. I eat more vegetables and fresh sweet fresh foods.”

Doctor Oryakhel talks about the diet of stomach acid reflux, “The patients who are suffering stomach acid reflux, should go to a doctor for essential treatment. They should avoid lemon, orange, sweet orange, vinegar, pepper, fried and spicy foods. They can take some home medicines like isabgol, ginger, and flixweed. These patients should less food but so many times a day.”
