Tonsillitis written

 A sore throat; difficulty swallowing; hoarse or no voice; a high temperature of 38C or above; coughing; a headache; feeling sick and earache are the primary signs of tonsillitis. AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some patients and a physician about this disease.

Sabawoon, a resident of Qarabagh district, Kabul province says, “I am suffering from tonsillitis. I have pain in my throat and I also suffer from fever.”

Samira, a resident of Kabul city says, “I have pain in my throat and I could eat anything. The doctors diagnosed it tonsillitis.”

Doctor Muhammad Sharif Sailani, ear, nose, and throat specialist in Indira Gandhi children’ Hospital, Kabul city talks about this disease, “Tonsillitis are of two types, one is acute, and the other is chronic. In the acute type of this disease, a high fever of up to 40 degrees, headache, vitality, nausea and vomiting, painful swallowing, ear pain, and toothache are associated with pain in the upper abdomen. In the chronic type, the patient might have persistent fever, persistent joint migratory pain, he/she would be usually dull, restless, and reluctant.”

What do people think about the causes of tonsillitis?

Sabawoon says, “Eating more pepper and carbonated drinks cause me tonsillitis.”

Shaheen, a resident of Sardarbeg village, Qarabagh district, Kabul province says, “I don’t know about the causes of tonsillitis but I am suffering from this disease from my childhood.”

Doctor Sailani says, “Contaminated air; living more people in a single room; eating more candy and carbonated drinks are some causes of tonsillitis.”

A mother from Paghman district, Kabul province says, “When my children suffer from throat sore, I apply Vaseline to their throat and they get better.”

A woman, a resident of Nangarhar province says, “My daughter suffers from tonsillitis, she gargles a mixture of salt and water or sometimes, she press her tonsils with her finger till the blood comes from them.”

Doctor Sailani talks about the treatment of this disease, “Pushing tonsils with a finger causes other health problems but gargling the mixture of boiled water and a little salt is useful and the patient should rest at home. The parents should prevent their children from eating candy, if they eat candy, they should drink hot tea and they parents should also avoid their children from eating stale food.”
