Fight Over Home Properties & Estate

Most brothers In Afghanistan living together at one home after their wedding. Their estates and properties are also shared but sometimes some brothers want to live an independent life and they want to divide the properties and estate among themselves. Some of these people face problems during exercising this practice.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people to find a solution to this issue.

Alhaj Abdul Razaq Achakzai, a resident of Waish district, Kandahar province says, “Tow brothers in our village fought over the dividing of home properties and they broke each other head.”

Gulalai Ashna, a resident of Kunar province says, “There were two brothers in our village in Kunar province. One of them was an educated man. They divided all properties peacefully but when one of them wanted to divide a carpet, the other brother denied to cut the carpet into two pieces and a fight occurred among them and they are still enemies of each other.”

What do people think about the causes of this issue?

Noorwali, a resident of Kabul city says, “Sometimes one brother has a job and prepares everything for home but the other brother doesn’t have a job. When they want to have an independent life, the one who has a job, claims that all properties of the home belong to him and in the result, they fight with each other.”

Sayed Ismatullah, a resident of Bamiyan province says: “Some brothers want to get more properties than others and some wives also make problems during dividing home properties and estate among brothers and in the result, they fight with each other.”

How do people solve this issue?

Nahida, a resident of Herat province says, “My father divided home properties with his brother peacefully. They sit together and talked about the issue. They had a car and a house. They solved the problem of dividing the properties in two weeks. Now we live on the first floor and my uncle lives on the second floor of the house and we have good relations with him.”

A school student, Samia says, “When our family was dividing the house properties, my grandfather divided all properties among the brothers without any objection.”
