Green School

Many schools are built in Afghanistan in recent years. The schools' administrations have planted flowers and lawn in the yard of some of the schools which are surrounded by walls but some students do not pay attention to the beauty of the school and they cut the flowers and under feet the lawn.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about this issue.

Roya, a sixth-grade student, Kapisa province says: “our school has no green area and it has a dusty yard. If a wind blows, the dust enters into our classes and causes us different diseases.”

Uzma, a resident of Laghman province says: “our school had flowers in lawn and the school administration had spent many Afghanis on them but school children destroyed all the flowers and lawn. If it rains, we could not walk on the schoolyard due to the mud and if the wind blows, the dust causes us illness.”

What is the responsibility of the students; school administration and families regarding this issue?

Basri Sahak, a vice principal of one of the schools in Kabul city says: “we have the school greenery committee. I and the school principal are the heads of this committee. The committee has the duty to plant flowers and lawns and water them on time. We teach students to take care of the green area in the school. We have separated a field for each class and students bring flowers seeds and plant them in their fields and they take care of them. Now our schoolyard is greener than other schools’ yards.”

If we keep the schoolyard green, the students enjoy their lessons and they might not become sick in schools.
