Experience and dare in Economic Activity

Written by: Hasamuddin Hamdard

There might be many people who have been working for a long time and have enough experience but do not dare to start their own activities but some others accept the risk and start their works.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to Matiullah, a resident of jalalabad city, Nangarhar province.

Matiullah says: “when I was a child, my father and brother had a job. When I needed a pen or a notebook, I could not dare to want money from them. Later I preferred to start a job in a hotel and I was cooking Manto (a special Afghani dish) and they were paying me 130 Afghanis wages daily and I continued my job as an apprentice in a different hotel for 18 years and I was learning cooking and preparing different varieties of foods.

One-day I talked to my father and said to him that I want to start my own work but I did not have enough money for this purpose. One of my friends gave me some money and I opened the hotel and started my own work.

I hired two cooks; one for Afghani dishes and the other for Pakistani’s.  I pay 30 % of my net income to my friend who economically helped me and I am satisfied with my work.”

MotorbikeTarpaulin:

Those who have an evaluation in their activities might have a good outcome.

AEPO’s writer/producer had a trip to Herat province and there, he has talked to a Shaima Sadat who makes tarpaulins for motorbikes and tricycles.

Shaima says: “two years before when I saw that many widow women are in need but they did not have any income, I decided to produce tarpaulins with the help of some widow women. In the beginning, I bought a piece of cloth and cut it for two tarpaulins by a tailor.  I understood that how much cloth is needed for each tarpaulin. I had no money to buy more cloth for producing tarpaulin. Some shopkeepers gave us some cloth in a loan and when we produced tarpaulins and gave them to a company, we paid the money of the shopkeepers back and now we have enough money for producing tarpaulins.

We produce 950 tarpaulins from 1000 meter cloth and one tailor could sew 50 tarpaulins daily and we get a 10 % benefit from our products.”
