Sometimes people need to borrow money from their friends or relatives and both sides appoint a time for repaying the many.  Most borrowers try to repay the money on time but someone does not.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about the consequences of borrowing money.

A shopkeeper, Hameedullah Yusufzai, a resident of Kabul city says: “one of my close friends borrowed some money from me. One day I asked him to return the money and he promised to repay me in two days but he did not come to my shop for a long time. I went to his house and I shared the issue with his mother. The next day, my friend came to my shop and quarreled with me. Police took both of us to the police station and there he promised to repay me in a month.”

Another shopkeeper, Ameenullah, a resident of Logar province says: “my costumers borrowed about 200 thousand Afghanis goods from me, and no one repays me on time and now my shop is empty and I decided to sell the goods on cash.”

Why some people do not repay their loans on time?

Ashiqullah, a resident of Panjshir province says: “borrowing money is easy but paying back is hard. Some people do not care about their trust and reliability. They borrow money but do not pay it back on time and this habit would reduce from their reputation.”

Sheerzai, a resident of Logar province says: “I borrowed money from one of my friends for a short time because if I wanted it a long time, he might not pay me. Now I could not repay it on the appointed time.”

Ismat says that some people do business with the borrowed money and when the owner of the money wants his money back, the borrower says that he does not have cash.

How could people solve this issue?

Ashiqullah says: “I prefer confidence than money. I had a business of charcoal. I started my work with 150 thousand Afghanis. Once I needed to borrow money from one of my friends. I was not able to pay the money back on the appointed time then I borrowed from someone else and paid back the money to its owner. Now my friend trusted me and borrowed more money.”

A shopkeeper, Alhaj Hayatullah says: “I always borrow some goods for my shop. I calculate with myself. If I could pay back the loan in 10 days, I promise him that I would repay him in 15 days and among these 15 days, I repay the loan to its owner. Now the wholesaler trusts me and gives more loan.”
