In Afghanistan, more roads and alleys are not paved and if they are paved, they are not standardized. Every year when the winter arrives, rainwater of the alleys stays on the roads and this issue creats problems for pedesrians.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about this issue.

Abdul Hameed, a resident of Kabul city says: “One-day, when I was wearing clean clothes and wanted to go to my job, I walked along the road, a speedy car was passing and it splashed dirty water on my clothes and I could not go to my job on that day.”

Muhammad Azeem, a driver says: “once I was driving on a rainy day. I did not see that a passerby was going on the roadside, I splashed dirty water on him by accident and his clothes became dirty.”

What do people think about the causes of this issue?

Abdul Hameed says: “when someone buys a new car, he wants to show himself to others, he drives fast and doesn’t care about pedestrians.”

Basree says that the drivers do not think the pedestrians as human and they drive carelessly.

Zakia, a resident of Panjshir Province says: “some drivers are not professional and they are not aware of traffic regulations.”

What points the drivers and pedestrians should take in consideration to avoid these problems?

Basree says that pedestrians should go on the pevement instead of the road.

Dil Aqa, a driver says: “in the winter, when rainwater stops on the roads, to prevent splashing water on pedestrians, I drive very slow.”
