Hemorrhoids in Women

Hemorrhoids are the diseases that could affect every person, but women are more likely to be considered as factors. According to the information provided by the surgical section of Rabia Balkhi Hospital, Kabul city, about 8 to 10 hemorrhoids patients refer daily to the mentioned hospital. Some of them are treated with medication and those who have acute hemorrhoids, are kept for surgical operation.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some hemorrhoids’ patients and a physician about this disease.

A woman, a resident of Charikar city, Parwan province says: “I have hemorrhoids and I suffer a bad pain and bleeding during my toilet…”.

Another woman says that she has hemorrhoids and she suffers from constipation and pain during her going to the toilet.

•    Doctor Marofa, a trainer of specialists, surgical department, Rabia Balkhi Hospital, Kabul city says: “Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum, similar to varicose veins. They might result from straining during bowel movements or from the increased pressure on these veins during pregnancy. The symptoms of hemorrhoids are painless bleeding during bowel, you might notice small amounts of bright red blood on your toilet tissue or in the toilet, Itching or irritation in the anal region, Pain or discomfort, swelling around the anus, constipation and many more.”

What do people think about the causes of hemorrhoids?

A woman from Nangarhar province says: “I was drinking less water and I was not eating vegetables and eat potatoes and rice more and due to these reasons, I faced with constipation and hemorrhoids.”

Another woman from Kabul city says: “I have to do my job in a sitting position and find no time to drink liquids and it caused me hemorrhoids.”

Doctor Marofa says: “women usually face hemorrhoids during pregnancy and most cases of this kind of hemorrhoids are cured after delivery and other causes are straining during bowel movements, sitting for long periods of time on the toilet, chronic diarrhea or constipation, Obesity, Low-fiber diet and some others.”

Home treatment: A woman from Paghman district, Kabul province says that she ate the mixture of the upper parts of leek leaves and mustard oil and gets rid of hemorrhoids.

Another woman from Kabul city says that she always uses lukewarm water for ablution, avoids eating rice, beef meat, and bread and he takes medicines according to the prescription of the doctor and he is better now.

the doctor says: “eating every kind of vegetables and rubbing Vaseline on anus are useful in the primary stage of hemorrhoids but in chronic hemorrhoids, the patient must visit a physician for the essential treatment and they should use ointment and other medicines according to the description of the doctor. The hemorrhoid patients should drink more liquids and they should sit in a bowl of lukewarm water for 15-20 minutes three times daily.”
