Each school has a few cleaners but there are a large number of students studying in each school. Keeping clean the whole school by a few cleaners is a hard work and dirty schools badly affect students’ performance.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about this issue.

Alim, a seventh-grade student, Balkhab district, Faryab province says: “our school environment is polluted; the yard and washrooms are not clean either and students are suffering from pollution.”

Aisha, a twelfth-grade student in Rahman Mina girls high school, Kabul city says: “we come to school in the second shift and in the first shift, elementary students come and they throw garbage inside the class, not in dustbin and they do not pay attention to the cleanliness of the classes so that we are facing many health problems.”

How could people solve this problem?

A student, Wahida a resident of Badakhshan province, says: “cleanliness starts from family. Parents should teach their children to keep school as clean as they keep their homes.”

another student, Maryam says: “my family advised me to throw the rubbish inside dustbin at school or at home. I always take care of the cleanliness of class and  I clean dustbin if it needed.”

A teacher, Mahfooza, a resident of Paktia province says: “when I enter the class, I ask the students to collect the garbage from the class and throw them in the dustbin and then I ask them to arrange the tables and chairs.

It is the job of parents to teach their children to pay attention to their school’s cleanliness. In a clean environment, the student could learn well but in a polluted environment, they might become sick and would not be able to learn well.
