The prostate is a small gland located in lower part of the bladder and performs various functions. One of it is helping to control urine by putting pressure on the urethra. In some cases, the prostate gland could not function normally and this problem could cause serious health problems.

AEPO’s writhe/producer has talked to some patients and a doctor about this issue.

Mr. Khairuddin, a resident of Parwan province says: "I suffer from the enlargement of the prostate gland and I have pain in my spinal cord, waist, back, and thighs.”

Mr. Muhammad Younus a resident of Maidan-Wardak province says: “when I go to the toilet, I suffer from weak urinate stream and feel pain during urinating. Sometimes blood is also seen in my urine.”

Doctor Ghulam Nabi, a urologist in Jamhoriat hospital, Kabul city says: “Prostate is a disease that occurs in the bladder and the symptoms of the enlargement of the prostate gland are the pain in the lumbar area, thighs, edema in spinal cords, weak urinate flow and pain, and blood in the urine. If the enlargement of the prostate gland is not treated on time, it could cause serious problems including prostate cancers."

What do people think about the causes of prostate disease?

Mr. Abdul Rab (male) says: “the gonorrhea is the main cause of prostate disease because at the beginning I was suffering from gonorrhea and then I faced with prostate gland enlargement.”

Mr.Gul Muhammad, a resident of Maidan-Wardak province says: "I think taking various kinds of medicines and some other illness cause prostate disease.”

Doctor Gulam Nabi says: “The causes of prostate enlargement are prostate gland inflammation, germs, the presence of urinary tract infection, gonorrhea, physical damage, the poor performance of the body's defense mechanism and the use of some medicines.”

Treatment:

Some people try to treat this disease at home.

Mr. Aminullah, a resident of Kunduz province, who also suffers from the prostate disease, says: “I drink more water in the morning and avoid spicy foods.”

The doctor says that home treatment of prostate disease is not effective and it could not be diagnosed until the patient does not visit a physician. There is a medical, surgical and non-surgical treatment for the enlarged prostate gland. In many cases, the gland is removed by the laser and the patient would be released from the hospital after twenty-four hours.
