The Village Ways in Afghanistan

Most Afghan villagers are landowners and they build houses in their lands. When the number of houses gradually increases, the way of the alley gets narrow and people face problems.

Writer/producer AEPO has talked to some people about this problem.

Sayed Jan, a resident of Ghazni province says:

The way to our village is so narrow that no car could go on it. When someone becomes sick, we have to take him/her on our back to the main road and in the winter, our problems increase.

Akbar Jan, a resident of Sayed Abad district of Maidan-Wardak province says: I am a taxi driver. One-day I was carrying a woman in my taxi to the hospital, but as the lane was narrow and crowded, I could not get to the hospital on time and the woman delivered a baby in my taxi.

Solution:

Abdul Rahman, the head of Bostan village council, Farza district of Kabul province says: the way to our village was very narrow and the residents were facing problems. The villagers shared the problem with me.  I mentioned it to the council and decided to widen the way and if anyone loses a piece of land or a corner of his house, he would not have the right to complain. They accepted and a non-government organization built the way to our village and now all the problems are solved.

Mohammad Qaseem, a clergyman says: Social life is more concerned in Sharia and giving way to others has many rewards. A Hadis says that if anyone picks a thorn from a way, he/she would get more rewards in the Akhirah. if cleaning the way from thorns has such rewards, giving ways to others might have more rewards.
