How to Plant Nectarine Gardens?

Nectarine is a kind of fruits with smooth, thin, brightly red colored skin and rich firm flesh. This fruit was rarely grown in Afghanistan but due to its good market, nectarines gardens increased in some provinces.

Writer/producer AEPO has talked to some gardeners and an agricultural expert.

Baba Mohammadi, a resident of Qarabagh, district of Kabul province says:

I have five Jerib land and I have grown nectarine trees along with other fruit trees. At the beginning, I bought a tree of nectarine from outside the country and grafted peaches tree from nectarine. Now I have four kinds of nectarines in my garden.

Another gardener, Najibullah, a resident of Qarabagh district also says: We have 30 trees of nectarine. We sold the fruits of each tree for 2400 Afghanis but the fruits of a tree of peach might be sold for 1000 Afghanis.

Abdul Samad Kamawi, an agricultural expert says:

Nectarine grows in any kind of land. the sapling of nectarine needs about 60 cm deep and 60 cm wide pit. In the first year, it needs more water and in the second year, gardeners should irrigate it twice a week. The pruning of tree should be applied at the end of autumn and should spray chemicals the trees 15 days before the spring. During fruit time, the gardeners should pick up the extra fruits from the tree before ripening. This would cause to grow the fruit well.
