Grapes are one of the economic resources and agricultural products of Afghanistan. More than 100 types of grapes are grown in Afghanistan. In recent years, some gardeners have grown a new type of grapes.

Writer/producer has talked to some of the gardeners and an agricultural expert about this type of grapes.

Zainuddin, a resident of Qarabagh, district of Kabul province says: the new type of grapes is called Shahana.

Shahana grapes vines are imported from abroad. About 350 grapes vines could be planted in one Jirib (540 square meters) land.

The pit for the vine should be enough wide to grow the vine well.

Abdul Samad Kamawi, an agricultural expert says:

Shahana grapes vines are importing from Tajikistan and the name, Shahana is also coming from Tajikistan.

Grape trellises are useful for all kinds of grapes, especially for Shahana grapes. The pillar of the trellis is made of cement and space between each pillar should be about 4 meters.

Each grapes vine might produce about 50 kilograms Shahana grapes. The differences between Shahana grapes with other grapes are: Shahana grapes are sweeter than others; these grapes ripe earlier and the gardener might get more benefit. Shahana grapes vines produce(yield) fruit in the second year of the planting.
