Arbitrary Medication of Stomach Worms of Children

Some parents give medicines of stomach worms to their children without consulting the doctor and this issue sometimes causes more health problems. AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some parents and a physician about this issue.
Zamingul, a resident of Parwan province says, “I brother was suffering from stomach worms. We bought him some medicines from a medical store without consulting a doctor. After taking the medicine, my brother faced vomiting; swelling of stomach; pain in intestines and diarrhea.”
Brishna, a resident of Kabul city says, “They had given worms medicines to my nephew without visiting the doctor. My nephew faced different health problems. His family took him to the hospital and they emptied his stomach by gastric lavage.”
Doctor Hamidullah Mayar, internist at Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital in Kabul city says, “Medications of any kind disease without consulting the doctor, most of the times cause some health problems. Some medicines badly affect kidneys; stomach, and liver. If liver could not work properly, the toxic substances might affect other organs of the body and causes diarrhea, vomiting, fever, unconsciousness, headaches and others and sometimes it might cause the death of the patient.”
What do some people think about health problems after medication without consulting the doctor?
Rustam says, “I do not know about the cause of it that why my son suffered from stomach pain after taking arbitrary medicines.”
Shamla, a resident of Kabul city says, “Some medicines have toxic substances and we do not know about them and giving medicines without consulting the doctor, cause more health problems.”
Doctor Mayar says, “The doctor visits the patients and check their age, weight and resistance of their body and then he/she prescribe them medicines. Giving more of less medicines without consulting the doctor cause more health problems due to having toxic substances in the medicines.”
How do some people treat children suffering from stomach worms?
Aftabgul, a resident of Parwan province says, “I am the father of 8 children. 2 of them was suffering from stomach worms. I took them to the doctor and the doctor advised them some medicines and after three days, the children got back their health.”
Shamla says, “I have 6 children. When any of them get ill, I take him/her to the doctor and I have never given medicines without consulting the doctor.”
