In Afghanistan, many people believe that men have to fulfill family expenses, but sometimes men's income does not cover family expenses and women have to work and have income some men do not allow women to work outside the home.

I wanted my husband to allow me to open an educational course to get some income but he did allow me said that his family does not allow women to work outside the home. Now our family is faced with economic problems.”

The writer/producer has talked to a woman teacher in Qarabagh district, Kabul city about her activities.

The woman says about her business, “I am the mother of 6 children. My husband is a laborer and he allowed me to have a business. I make pickles and jam at home. If any NGO announces a short term business, I participate in it too. Before our whole family lives in a single room and I was always suffering from headaches. We earned some money and built more rooms in our home yard. Now I live in a separate room. My husband helps me in making pickles and jam and sometimes he takes care of the children.”

The AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to Shireen Agha, the husband of the mentioned woman. He says, “If there is no unity between wife and husband, they might not have a comfortable life. I allowed my wife in the light of Islamic regulations to work and stable our family economy. I was not able to fulfill the needs of my family therefor I allowed her to work. Now our economic condition is better than before and we can solve any kind of problems.”
