According to the information provided by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education of Afghanistan currently, 46% of schools in Afghanistan do not have buildings, and the students of these schools are in trouble.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about this issue.

Jawad, a resident of Shakardara district, Kabul province says, “We have school in our area but it does not have a building. Our children go to school with clean uniforms but come back home with dirty uniforms. When it rains, their uniforms and school books get wet.”

A woman teacher from Kandahar province says, “Our students study in the open area under the hot sun. If the weather is cold or hot, they become ill and could not come to school for some days and when there is a dust storm, the teachers could not teach the students.”

How do people help in building school?

Fariba Farhat, a headmaster of Qarabagh girls school says, “In 2018, our school had some building, but as we had more students in the school, some of the students were studying under the hot sun. The school administration invited one of the wealthy persons of our village. When that person saw that many students are studying in the sun without any shelter, he promised that he would help in the construction of some new classes in the school.

The administration of the school shared the issue with the director of the district education department and he accepted the proposal.

The mentioned man constructed some new classrooms with all the equipment.”

Amin, a resident of Daikundi province says, “There was no school in our area. The residents of the area collected some money, and they constructed the building of the school from dust breaks. Now we have three dust bricks schools in our area, and many students are studying in these schools.”
