Some employers do not pay wages on time in Afghanistan and sometimes this issue causes problems to employees.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about the causes and solutions to this issue.

Ahmad Shikeb, a resident of Laghman province says, “I was working with a carpenter and he was paying 700 Afghanis weekly wages. I had many economic problems at home and I had to prepare home necessities from my wages but the employer did not pay me my wages on time and no one had been borrowing me anything.”

Dewa, a resident of Laghman province Says, “One of our relatives was working with a landowner as a peasant and he was very old. The landowner was not paying him. He was always thinking about his wages. One day he faced hypertension and his family took him to the clinic. The doctor diagnosed him with anxiety.”

What do people think about the causes of this issue?

Abdul Ahad, a resident of Logar province says, “Our manager was pretending that the employer had not paid our wages he was always promising us to pay our wages soon but he was telling lie.”

Dost Muhammad, a resident of Kabul city says, “Some employers think that the employees need to work and they would do anything that the employers want and the employees think if they have any objection, they might lose their job.”

How do people find a solution to this issue?

Sabir Shah, a resident of Faza district, Kabul province says, “I sell coal in a shop and the shop owner pays me monthly wages on time. He behaves me like I am his brother. I was a partner of him for 17 years and now I work with as an employee. I work honestly and when I need money, he pays me my wages in advance.”

Engineer Muhammad Mansoor, the director of an education center in Kabul city says, “I pay to my all employees on time. Islamic religion orders Muslims that wages must be paid before the sweat dries. We pay the wages from 5-10 of the next month if any of the employees needs in advance, we pay him/her and we did not have a delay in paying wages yet.”
