Persimmons are growing well in warm climate in fertile land and some gardeners have also planted these trees in relatively cold areas too but some of them are not satisfied with the result of their persimmon garden.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some gardeners and an agricultural expert about the growth of persimmon trees.

Haji Azizulrahman, a resident of Kapisa province says, “I planted a few trees of persimmon in my garden beside other trees. They grew but dried in the summer.”

Enayatullah, another resident of the mentioned province   says, “I have an apple garden. I had heard about the growth of persimmon trees and some years ago I planted 15 saplings of persimmon. They grew but they have not yielded so far.”

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked a gardener, Ziauddin, a resident of Kapisa province who has gotten a good result of his persimmon garden.

Ziauddin says, “I have replaced my mulberry garden with persimmon garden. At the beginning, I talked to an agricultural expert and he guided me to plant persimmons sapling due to the appropriate climate for this fruit. Persimmon sapling needs to be planted in 1.5 meters deep in the ground and the space between each row of persimmon saplings should be 5 meters and the space between each sapling reaches 4 meters. I irrigate my garden twice a week. The best time for planting this plant is the last month of the winter but some gardeners also plant it at the beginning of the winter.”

An agricultural expert, Abdul Samad Kamawi says, “Gardeners should choose land for growing persimmons that have previously been cultivated wheat, barley, corn, and other vegetables. Persimmons are well grown in areas where the weather is not too cold. The gardener should dig the land about 60x60 centimeters deep for each sapling. They should mix soil with fertilizer and pour it over the root of the seedling and water them regularly.”
