According to the information provided by the Stomatology Hospital in Kabul city about 400-800 patients refer to the mentioned hospital daily for the treatment of their teeth.

People experience different types of dental diseases. Some of these diseases are cured by medication and some patients have to extract their teeth. If these patients do not take care of the wound after tooth extraction, they might face some problems. AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some patients and a dentist about this issue.

Murtaza, a resident of Qarabagh district, Kabul province says, “I have extracted my two teeth and could not eat and drink anything and I was suffering from bleeding and pain.”

A woman, a resident of Maidan-Wardak province says, “I extracted almost my all teeth. When I came home, my gums infected and this problem lost for 4 months. I was also suffering from throat sore and I could not open my mouth to eat something.”

Doctor Muhammad Daud Yaqubi a dental surgeon in Stomatology Hospital says, “Much of the aftercare in the first couple of days following an extraction focuses on allowing a blood clot to form and caring for the mouth in general. Low-level bleeding for up to 24 hours after an extraction is perfectly normal. However, active bleeding after this point requires treatment. Bad breath could be caused by surgical wounds after tooth removal. Bitter taste in the mouth; fever; pain; sensitivity of the teeth to hot or cold; swelling of the gum; swollen glands of the neck and swelling in the jaw are the problems of not taking care after tooth extraction.”

What do people think about the causes of these problems?

Raqeeb, a resident of Chaharasiab district, Kabul province says, “I do not know why wound has pain after tooth extraction.”

Nilofar, a resident of Ghazni province says, “Those who do not care about the dentist advice after tooth removal, they might face some health problems.”

A woman says, “I am used to snuffing and it caused my gums to be infected after tooth extraction.”

Doctor Yaqubi says, “If anyone doesn’t care about the hygiene of his/her mouth after tooth removal; if he/she use cigarette or snuff and do not care about the advice of the dentist, there are some microbes in the mouth which help in foods digestion, these microbes might cause the infection of the wound.”

How do people take care of after tooth removal?

Garandai, a resident of Qarabagh district says, “When the dentist extracted my tooth, he prescribed me some medicines and I took them according to the prescription. I always wash my mouth after eating and I have not faced any health problems regarding this issue.”

Nilofar says, “When the doctor removed my tooth, he advised me to eat ice cream and drink cold water and he prevented me from drinking hot tea and hot foods. I took the medicines on time and faced no problem.”

Doctor Yaqubi says, “The patients who remove their teeth, they should not use cigarettes, snuff, and hookah for 24 hours. Drinking cold water and rinsing moth with mouthwash is useful for these patients and they should take the medicines according to the prescription of the doctor. If the bleeding does not stop, they can put some green tea leaves in cotton and put it in the wound. It would cause to stop bleeding.”
