Teachers Time-Pass in Schools

According to the information provided by the Ministry of Education of Afghanistan, about 229000 teachers are teaching in Afghanistan. The teachers have to teach according to the given curriculum but some teachers just waste the time of the students. This manner of the teachers causes students to be disappointed with school.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked about this issue to some students.

Rahib, a resident of Farza district, Kabul province says: “our teacher was always mocking students and was making laugh others instead of teaching and we did not learn anything from him.”

Samiullah, a resident of Chaharasiab district, Kabul province says: “our teachers attend the class but they do not teach us our school lessons. They just pass time.”

Professor Muhammad Ibraheem Izati, a pedagogue at Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan Teacher Training Institute says: “If the teachers waste time in class, they keep the student away from learning. These students would not be good for the school administration and nor for their families and they might not respect their teachers and might be a burden on the community.”

Why do some teachers do not pay attention to their teaching?

Samiullah says: “as some teachers are not hired according to their related field, so they could not teach other subjects.”

Haneefa, a resident of Nangarhar province says: “Our English teacher was always busy in his mobile phone in the class because he did not know English.”

Professor Izati says: “the first cause of teachers time pass in the school is the teachers’ low salary. They might a job outside of the school too and they could not be able to teach students at school too. The school administration does not pay any attention to the teachers’ economic life. If the school or class does not have any surrounding, the teacher might not dare to teach the students well.”

What are the responsibilities of the students, school administration, families and other people?

Muhammad Tariq, a resident of Parwan province says: “one of the teachers was just passing time in the class. I and one of my classmates shared the issue with the school administration. The school administration replaced the teacher and now the new teacher pays more attention to our study.”

Mariam Anwary, a principal of a school in Kabul city says: “once the parents of the students complained from the passing time of a teacher in the school. I talked to the teacher and now he pays more attention to her job.”
