Improper Stop of Vehicles

The number of vehicles is increasing every day especially in the cities of Afghanistan and if the drivers do not obey traffic regulations, it might cause problems for other drivers and Pedestrians.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about this issue.

Omid Asak, a resident of Kabul city says: “once I wanted to go to Jalalabad city, Nangarhar province, a bus had blocked the road and we passed 2-kilometer way in 11 hours.”

Najeebullah, a taxi driver, a resident of Kabul city says: “the traffic congestion and road blockage caused by improper stops are causing vehicles to use more fuel and we cannot take benefit of our profession and the passengers also complain that they could not reach to their jobs on time.”

What do people think about the causes of this issue?

Asak says: “when a vehicle breakdown or other technical problems occur, the driver stops his/her car in the middle of the road. When other vehicles arrive, their drivers also stop their vehicle near to the breakdown vehicle and thus they block the road for all the vehicles too and they do not care about the passengers.”

A driver, Ghulam Farooq says: “some buses and taxis are stopping improperly on the road and the passengers are getting on the vehicles. it leads to traffic congestion.”

How to solve this problem?

A driver, Abdul Ghafar says: “if a driver knows traffic regulations, he/she would never stop his/her vehicle improperly. I always try to stop my taxi one side of the road for picking up passengers because if I stop my vehicle in the middle of the road, I would be creating problems for others.”

Najeebullah a resident of Logar province says: “it is my sixth year of driving in Kabul city but have not blocked the road yet. If a passenger asks me to drop him/her off, I find a proper place to stop my car and I avoid to block the road.”
