Garbage on the Lanes

written by: Naqib Ahmad Azizi

Most lanes of the villages are wider than the cities' but some lanes are narrow and some people compile garbage on the lanes. This issue creates some problems for the villagers.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people who suffer from garbage in the lanes.

Fatima, a resident of Paghman district, Kabul province says: “there is a big pit beside our house and people collect garbage in it. We cannot set in our yard due to bad smell and flies.”

Another girl, Marwa says: “people compile garbageon  the alley and flies attract to decay and trashes. One day while I was crossing the garbage, a mosquito stung me and I suffered from skin itching."

What do people say about the causes of this problem?

Marwa says that some people do not care about the cleanliness of their residential areas and they just drop garbage on the lanes or on the public ways.

Some other interviewers have the same complain as Marwa has but how could the people solve this problem?

Hamid Gul, a resident of Paghman district, Kabul province says: “before people were collecting garbage on the ground near their residential area but later the bad smell bothered us. Some elders came together and selected a place far from the village for compiling garbage and now we live in a clean atmosphere.”

A clergyman, Maulvi Waliullah, a resident of Ahmad Shah Baba mina, Kabul city says: “Cleanliness is nothing but faith. We have four programs about the benefit of cleanliness every year and I explain it from the pulpit of the Masjid (mosque). We cleaned our residential area three time this year by collective works and we also asked the municipality to help us in picking up the garbage and now we live in a clean environment.”
