some children and juveniles are celebrating the victory of Afghan sports teams, Eid, Nowruz and so on with playing explosive materials and the sound of blast created from fire crackers, might cause anxiety and psychological problems for some people.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about this issue.

A teacher, Allah Gul Niazi says: “one night, when the tv announced that the next day is the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr, some boys blasted explosive materials. those who had heart diseases or mental illnesses faced crucial health problems and we took them to the hospitals.”

A mother, Bibi Shaima says: “the sound of firecrackers badly affects me, my blood pressure goes up and I suffer from shivering. My two nephews burnt by the shooting of percussion and unfortunately, after surgery, they became disabled.”

Why children and youths shoot firecrackers?

Bibi Shaima says: “as firecrackers are easily available here in Afghanistan and parents do not inform their children of the hazard of explosive materials, children enjoy shooting firecrackers during special days.”

A boy, Rashid says that he enjoys the blasting of explosive materials during Eid and Nowruz.

How to solve this problem?

Allah Gul Niazi says: “the boys who were shooting explosive materials, are our students. We talked to them about the danger of explosive materials and also we decided through a village council that we should talk to the shopkeepers who sell explosive materials to not bring and sell these items anymore, and if they continue selling explosive materials, the village council would introduce them to the security organs.”

Lutfullah, a shopkeeper in Kapisa province says: “I don’t sell explosive materials in my shop and nor and ordinary plastic pistol because these items create problems for people.”

Bibi Shaima says: “I have informed my children about the danger of explosive materials and I do not allow them to go out with their friends during Eid’s nights.”
