Women’s Right to Work in Afghanistan

Wife and husband are as two wings of the life; if one wing doesn’t work, the other wing would be affected too. Although Many Afghan women are working outside homes but some families do not give the right to some women to work outside.

Regarding to this issue, the writer/producer AEPO has talked to some women.

Noor Afshan, a resident of Badakhshan province says: I passed the school two years before and then I got married. Some days before the thieves stole all the commodities from our home and only my husband is working and his salary is not sufficient for us. I am able to do a job but no one allows me.

Madina, a resident of Farza district of Kabul province says: I got married four years ago and after four months of my wedding, my husband went to jail and we faced many economic problems. I have passed high school. The school administration asked me to teach in the school but my father-in-law did not allow me to work outside the home and says that it is shameful for them.

How to solve this problem?

Gul Pari, a cleaner in one of the hospitals in Kabul city says: my husband is disabled and my children are small. In the beginning, our relatives and neighbors were helping me but I thought I am not disabled and I could do a work. I got a job as a cleaner and now I could solve my economic problems.

A girl, Najeeba says: when I started to work with a non-governmental organization in my village, some people were against my work and they wanted me to leave it but I didn't care and I continued to work.

Humaira Haqmal, a legal expert says the article 48th, chapter fourth of constitution of Afghanistan gives equal rights of legal works to each Afghan.
