According to the agricultural experts’ survey, cucumber could be cultivated almost in all provinces of Afghanistan and most farmers cultivate them in the old style and could not get desirable crops.

Recently some farmers experienced greenhouses for cultivating cucumber.

The writer/producer AEPO has talked to some farmers how to build cucumber greenhouse.

Azizulrahman, a resident of Paghman, district of Kabul province says:

Once I had gone to Farah province and there I learned how to build a greenhouse for cucumber. For building a greenhouse, we need a special plastic, 3 inches metal pipes and some nuts and bolts for pipes.

Noor Ahmad Popal, agricultural expert says:

When we want to build a 4x10 meters standard greenhouse, we would need 40000 Afghanis to prepare zinc pipes, special plastic, green wire-net and cucumber seeds.

We should select a mixture of sand and soil and then we should mix manure with them and make a compost. Cucumber seeds should be cultivated in agricultural trays for 20 days and then transfer them into the greenhouse. The space between each plant should be about 30 cm and should be watered once a week during winter and every two days in the summer.
