Many villagers are not having access to the very primary facilities in Afghanistan. Lack of drinking water and water for irrigation, not having bridge and roads in their villages are the main problems. Some villagers are able to solve these problems but some of them are waiting for others to solve their problems.

Writer/producer AEPO has talked to some villagers about these issues.

A farmer, Mohammad Yaqub, resident of Qarabagh, district of Kabul province says:

We are facing drought in recent years. There is no water in the village stream. villagers throw their garbage in the stream. It causes a health problem. I asked the villager to come together and clean the stream but they said that whenever water comes in the stream, then we would clean it.

Sayed Rasool, another resident of Qarabagh district says: two villages have one canal for irrigation but the canal is filled with dust and they have no water for irrigation. No one wants to clean the canal. The farmers cultivated vegetables but the lack of water caused the field to be dried and they faced damage.

Solution:

Some people have found a solution to these problems.

Sediq Rawan, a resident of Paktia Province says:

We established a local shora (union) in our village. We solved almost our all problems with the assistance of the shora and now we have enough drinking water and water for irrigation; we constructed a road to our village and, provided electricity to half of the villagers.

How to establish local shora?

Shahzadah, a chieftain of Kakarha village, Qarabagh district of Kabul province says:

When we come back from immigration, there was no clinic, school, road, Masjid, bridge, and canal in our village. No one was able to build all these things alone. We came together and established a shora from the elders of the village. This shora has one chairman, two assistants, one secretary and a cashier. At the beginning, we built a masjid, a library, girls school, canal, and women social council and the shora is still continuing its social works
