Grapes Packing

In most countries, grapes are packing by machine but in Afghanistan, agriculture is not modernized yet and gardeners pick up fruits traditionally and sell them in the market. the traditional way of Packing grapes causes gardeners damage.

How to solve this problem? The writer/producer AEPO has talked to some gardeners and an agricultural expert.

A gardener says that they packed grapes in a plastic bag and carried them to a market, no one was eager to buy them. After three days, about 70% of the grapes spoiled.

An agricultural expert, Abdul Samad Kamawi says: the process of grapes packing is very important. If gardeners do not pay attention to the packing of grapes, they might face damage.

Habibullah, a resident of Ghazni province says that they divide grapes into three sorts: the first sort they pack in a carton the second sort they put in a plastic bag and the third sort they keep it for making raisin.

Abdul Samad Kamawi says: the cluster of grapes should be cut by sharp scissors. gardeners should separate spoiled grapes from others, and at the end, the grapes should be packed in one row in a carton, because placing second or third-row one upon another, spoil grape. The grapes should be covered by sulfurized paper. Sulfur kills insects of grapes in the carton. Packing grapes in cartons, help gardeners to carry them safely to the market for selling.
