Plastic Curtains

Afghanistan is one of the countries that imports most of its goods from abroad. In recent years, some factories have been set up to offer domestic products to their customers. AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to Karimullah, a resident of Kabul city who manufactures plastic curtains.

Karimullah talks about his business, “As I considered that most medical and general stores use plastic curtains in their doors and those curtains were imported from one of our neighboring countries, then I decided to make these curtains inside Afghanistan.

I learned this skill from the imported curtains.

Plastic, adhesive, magnetic, and a ribbon are used in plastic curtains. About 7 workers are busy with me in this business.

We produce two types of curtains and get about 100-150 Afghanis benefit from each square meter curtain.

Beside plastic curtain, we make Hijabs and ladies dress and sell them in the province.”

AEPO’s writer/producer had a trip to Balkh province and there has talked to Abdul Manan, a resident of Mazar-e-Sharif city.

Abdul Manan says, “When I was a child, my family immigrated to one of our neighboring countries. As jewelry making is the profession of  my father and grandfather, they decided to start this business in that country. At the beginning they faced many problems and they were doing all the works with hand and later they bought a machine.

When we came back to Afghanistan, as we are familiar with the customs of our people in Mazar-e-Sharif, we opened a factory of making jewelries in Mazar-e-Sharif.

At the beginning, we were making earrings and rings but we make different designs of rings, earring and necklaces. We use precious and semi-precious stone in making ornaments. Now a few numbers of people are busy in work with us and also the women our home help us in this issue.

We have bought a house for us from the benefit of the factory.”
