Public Library for Children in the Villages of Afghanistan

There are different causes that most children and adolescents in the rural areas are away from studying. Lack of public libraries in is one of these causes.

AEPO’s writer/producer has talked to some people about this issue.

Ismatullah, a resident of Paktia province says, “There is no library in our village. When I graduate from high school, I do not have extra information and I always face some problems. Once we had a guest in our house; he asked me about my favorite subject. I replied history is my favorite subject. Then he asked me a question of history but I was not able to reply and it caused me a big shame. The reason was the lack of extra study due to not having access to the library.”

Khan Zaman, a resident of Nangarhar province says, “Once I need to find some information about an issue but as there was no library in our area, I could not succeed in my effort.”

How people could solve this issue?

Humaira Adeel, who studies in the United States of America, a year ago came to Afghanistan and she had a trip to Parwan province and there she considered that children and youths of her residential area are eager to study but they are not able to buy a book for studying. She made a library in her village. Now about 400 different books are in the mentioned library and children and adolescents could use the library. She decided to make such libraries in different areas on her next trip to Afghanistan.
